Poetry is one of the genres of literature and it can be defined as the use of words and language to evoke a writer’s feelings and thoughts towards a particular issue, it is based on the interplay of words and rhythm and the end result is a poem. I feel poetry presents a more vivid representation of literature as it can incorporate features of both drama and prose which are the other two genres of literature. Another thing about poetry is that it doesn’t require any form of specialty before a poem can be penned down, in short everybody can write a poem and the likes of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln are a testament to that statement. I wrote a poem almost a year ago when I found myself in a drag (like Shikamaru would say) I couldn’t really tell anybody about the situation except my best friend but I still needed to express myself in my own way so I took to poetry. –The Knight and the Bishop– What move shall I make between a knight and a bishop Like a convalescent trying to cure hiccup What path shall I take To fulfill my never ending desires Both with might and valor Is it love or an attachment to tailor. The knight moves first and foremost Performing duties in uncharted coast Duty bound and stricken with honor But a knight in the rim is grim Not to follow one would be an error. Preaching at dawn and daylight With every time my soul takes flight Time is what is lacking to deliver a message. Intentions are what I can’t fathom, But a simple portrait viewed For you I would steal the rings of Saturn. Now I am faced with crossroads Summer breeze will pass the meadow Over the sands of time Or in tears shall I wallow Poseidon has gifted his trident Three choices but none is latent. I am a player with convince Yet an hypocrite in the province Would I be rescued by a knight In shining armor Or should I spend my night, In the solace of a prayer warrior. As much as I would have loved to explain every line in each stanza, you should figure it out yourself, moreover that’s the beauty of poetry, it gives you the chance to see things from a whole new perspective whilst trying to understand the true connotation of each line.
